Experiences at TLU

Hobbies of mine include taking pictures, playing around with computers, spending money, building campfires, hanging out with friends, being outside, and working with technical equipment. I like to use cameras and their different settings in order to capture still images that are beautiful and radiant. I also like editing pictures and using different programs to change up the pictures a little.

I also like to play Ultimate Frisbee which is basically like football except with a Frisbee and the main thing is that you can't move if you have the Frisbee in your hands.  I love playing this game because it's a good social event, you get a cardio workout and you learn a little about being on a team, though we try to just play for fun here at school.

I enjoy my time here at TLU and am having a great time with friends. However, I feel led to transfer out to the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. This is mainly because I am a theology major, and I don't totally agree with the theology being taught here. Another reason is because I am a conservative Baptist attending a moderate to liberal Lutheran University, of which I don't really have a problem with except for some of the political views floating around here. I don't appreciate some of the  activities that are school sponsored and feel the need to go to a school were I am more in line with the teaching and political views. I am not an activist, so staying here and opposing activities and ideas is not something that I would be a part of.

My Faith

If you haven't seen from pictures already, I am very active in the youth group at First Baptist Church. I love to go and hang out with them and really enjoy the singing, bible study, and fellowship of the people there. I am a born-again Christian and do my best to be active about my faith and live up to the standards God has set for me in the Bible. I am going to West Africa in April of this year, and am very excited about the trip. I have been waiting for the opportunity to go on a mission trip for a few years now, and when my youth minister asked me to go with him, I jumped at the chance to go. I feel the need to go and experience another culture in order to get a feel for what life is like outside the United States. I have lived a mostly sheltered life and have not experienced the feeling of want or extreme hunger. I don't allow myself to go hungry because I get really bad headaches.

The youth group I am a part of goes on mission trips mostly during the summer mainly because of school, but when we go, we have lots of fun. The last couple of years we have gone to Arlington, TX which is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in north Texas. We go to help out an organization called Mission Arlington which is a non-profit organization that takes any kind of donation from anyone. We go help them with whatever they need and it's just basic mission work, but mission work nonetheless. We move people out of and into apartments and move food for them, and participate in a program that is engineered to teach children about the Bible in a fun and exciting way. We all have a really good time serving and hanging out with each other on these week-long trips.

Travel

I have been to about half of the Continental United States as well as a couple of feet into Mexico. Most of the travel has been on choir tours with the youth group. We traveled in fifteen passenger vans to Florida, North Dakota, and Arizona from Texas on three different occasions. We traveled through Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, New Mexico, and Arizona. The drives were long with very few stops, and that is not good for me because of my inability to not drink fluids. Anyway, we had great fun on all three trips and sang at many different churches all across the states. They are experiences I will never forget.

My family vacations usually involve a coastline somewhere in Texas, though we have been on a couple of out of state trips. Family reunions in Michigan, Nevada, and California have allowed me to have experiences in those states as well. Our last vacation from this past summer was to Washington State where we drove for almost a week to take in all the beautiful scenery of that state. We did have to take a detour though because of a rock slide that was supposed to take two days to clear. We ended up going through the northern part of Oregon and drove along the Columbia River for about four hours. That was a fairly long drive, but the scenery was still very beautiful, so I was okay with it.

Food

Food around Seguin consists mostly of Mexican Food, which is pretty exceptional by my standards. I love to go eat breakfast tacos or get a couple of enchiladas from one of the restaurants around town. I am pretty picky about what I eat, though in recent years I have become more diverse in what I will eat. Chinese cuisine, Mexican and American is about my variety in this town though. They do include many different meals and dishes though, so I do have a large variety to chose from. I like to eat meat especially, steak is my favorite, mainly because I raise cattle and enjoy supporting the family business.

Jobs

I currently have three employers, well four if you count school. I work on a tree farm for Rick Ehlers off of Lakeview Drive--it's about two minutes from the school--where I help trim, transplant, and organize trees. I have a really good time there because I get to be outside a lot. My second employer is my dad. My family owns a cattle ranch and I help out from time to time when I need to. I like working on the ranch because, again, I enjoy being outside and also helping my father run the business. My third employer is actually the school here. I just started working in Jackson Auditorium for Jonathon Zittleman, which I believe I will really enjoy because I love to do all the behind the scenes tech work. I love to work with sound and lighting equipment, which my new job will allow me to do, so I'm excited.

All of my jobs are part-time. Basically I work whenever I can, or more often than not whenever I feel like working. For the tree farm, or the ranch, when the weather is cold or wet, I really don't enjoy going to work, so hopefully if I can work it out, whenever the weather is bad, I will just work here at the school. All three jobs are pretty close to the school too, so I can pretty much go work whenever I have time, because the drive is practically nothing for me. I'm really excited about these jobs and love doing all three.
