Seguin is strategically located in South Central
Texas on Interstate Highway 10. San Antonio, the tenth largest city in the United States, is thirty minutes west of Seguin via IH-10. Austin, the state capital, is conveniently accessible 50 miles to the north by State Highway 123 and Interstate Highway 35. The ports of Houston and Corpus Christi are nearly equal distance from Seguin. |
Coming to the United States was my first trip out of Africa but certainly not the last. These are just a few pictures of the places that i would like to visit in the world.
London Paris Hawaii
The staple food in my country is sadza served with a variety of different relishes but my favorite was always with t-bone steak and green vegetables cooked in peanut butter. In the picture the sadza is served with chicken. Sadza has many names throughout Africa, the shona name for Zimbabwe's staple food is Sadza, the Ndebele word for it is isitshwala, in South Africa it is known as Mielie Pap, in Zambia they call it Nshima, in Eastern Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) the name for sadza is Ugali and in Malawai it is called Sima. Along with all the different names for it, there are also many variations on how to cook it and what is the best way to eat it. For a recipe contact me at lnndimande@tlu.edu | |
My favorite meal of all time is my mum's chicken and dumplings. I have tried the American style but it does not compare to my mum's and unless you get a chance to come home with me you will have to take my word on how absolutely amazing it is. It does not even look the same and quite frankly i prefer the consistency of my mum's dumplings. |
My favorite dessert would have to be milk tarts from Haefellis (a coffee shop in Bulawayo). They are usually not as big as the one pictured but come little and scone-sized with cinnamon sprinkled on top and should always be served with a hot beverage to get the best taste. |
The church that i belong to is the African Methodist Episcopal Church,
more commonly known as A.M.E. My mum was raised by this church and she has continued to do the same with her children. It was first started by African slaves in the United States. The church was born in protest against slavery - against dehumanization of African people, brought to the American continent as labor. It rejected the negative theological interpretations which rendered persons of African descent second class citizens. Theirs was a theological declaration that God is God all the time and for every body.
