I am a strong believer in community service and helping others whenever possible. As I mentioned earlier, I attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Hallettsville where ever since kindergarten the values were instilled in me to help others. I learned to go out of my way to lend a helping hand in my community back home. We held numerous fundraisers for various causes. One project that I particularly enjoyed and benefited from was a Christmas project where every class adopted a needy family and provided Christmas gifts for that family in need. I even got to deliver the presents to the children who were absolutely overjoyed. Their happy faces and the ease it put on their single mother who had worried how she would get them gifts were a greater reward than anything I have ever experienced before.

At Texas Lutheran I have continued helping others through our baseball community service projects. We held a food drive and went around collecting food for families in need. We filled four pickup beds with food in just one evening. Along with that project, we cleaned up a dilapidated area around a local house in honor of the University's installation of the new president. I really saw a change after we had finished these projects and I'm glad that my service has continued into college through the efforts of Texas Lutheran University.
