TLU Experience | City of Seguin | Travel | Food
Texas Lutheran University is amazing! This school is so unique because it offers classes under 20 people and you are able to connect to generally everybody you meet. It is different from a bigger university of 10,000 or more people because by walking to your classes you know almost everyone you see compared to knowing hardly anybody. It is definitely not for everyone though and many people do find another school that fits their expectations, but for some students the "small town" feeling is the experience they were looking for.
Seguin, Texas is very pretty because it is in the middle of farming land. One would never expect a university of 1400 students to be in such a small town. I personally love the rural area with farms and little shops around. Growing up in San Antonio, Texas I never thought I would end up in a private university, better yet a Lutheran one. It was hard to get used to the small town but only took a semester to realize this is where I wanted to be for the next four years of college. Seguin is a great town to live in because it is so diverse. Plus the homemade Mexican food is always a plus!
Traveling is by far one of my favorite things to do. I have already been to Austria, Germany, Italy and this summer I will be traveling to Prague, Czech Republic for an international marketing class. To be fully educated I believe that everybody should travel out of their country. You can only obtain so much information from a book. The facts are a good foundation to have of another country, or place, but to truly learn and understand about something you need to physically see it. Everyone has a different opinion, so to make your own you need to travel and build on your foundation of personal knowledge. To truly appreciate history, culture, or people from other countries, books need to be put down and people needs to experience it for themselves.
Homemade Seguin, Texas Mexican food is one of my top choices. Taco Bell is good also but only for people who have never had hole in the wall, family recipe, Mexican food. After living in this town for a year and a half, I have tried every Mexican food restaurant and can tell you the best thing to order. Italian food is also on my top list of food choices and could eat that everyday. So far my favorite Italian restaurant is Zio's in San Antonio, Texas. It has the best Manicotti I have ever tried. It doesn't beat homemade Manicotti but comes pretty close. Honestly I love to eat and try anything new because I was never allowed to be a picky eater.
